General FAQs
-
Booth Hills Transmission is a generation intertie (gen-tie) transmission project under development west of Maricopa, Arizona in unincorporated Maricopa and Pinal counties. The Booth Hills gen-tie project would connect the proposed Pinyon and Caballero Solar projects to the existing Pinal West Substation.
-
Booth Hills is being developed by Avantus (formerly 8minute), a leading solar and energy storage developer with more than a decade of success across the Western United States. Our legacy of leadership in next generation solar energy includes developing one of the nation’s largest solar clusters and one tf he first slar plants to deliver energy for less than fossil fuel prices back in 2016.
-
The project area under consideration comprises an approximately 200-foot-wide corridor extending for a total of 5.5 miles, which will encompass the proposed project transmission lines, substations, and points of interconnection at the existing Pinal West Substation. The two project substations will occupy an approximate 0.4-acre area each.
-
The existing Pinal West Substation, where the electricity will be distributed throughout TEP and SRP’s service territories.
-
Adding more electricity generation to the area is expected to benefit local residents by providing locally generated power to the electrical grid, reducing potential outage risks from elsewhere. Booth Hills Transmission is critical to distribute the energy generated by the proposed solar projects to the regional electrical grid.

No, Booth Hills Transmission will use minimal water. The biggest use of water over the life of the Project occurs during construction to suppress any dust. After construction, no water use is necessary for the operation and maintenance of the transmission lines.
-
During construction, we expect our crew will generate some noise and add cars/trucks to certain roads, and we will work aim to minimize those potential impacts. As always, we aim to be respectful of our neighbors and aim to keep construction noise to a minimum. All site activity is subject to and will comply with Maricopa County and Pinal County noise ordinances.
